Spatial information capabilities are used across Australia for a range of purposes and in a number of different contexts. They are used to support event planning, situational awareness, crisis management and strategic and operational decision-making.
Case studies provide useful and interesting insights into different system architectures that have been employed, the uses to which they have been put and the benefits to organisations of doing this. Case studies are available in printed form for download and occasionally in movie format.
The Spatial Information eXchange (SIX) is a web-based application established by the NSW Department of Lands. SIX provides a range of spatial services with a dedicated Fire & Hazards channel designed to help protect communities.

The Department of Planing and Infrastructure in NT has established a spatial information capability by incorporating the ‘NT Visualiser’. This is now actively used by government agencies for a variety of purposes.

The Shared Land and Information Platform (SLIP) in WA provides a single, online point-of-entry to the State’s spatial information. SLIP-EM build upon this capability to support emergency management requirements.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) is responsible for emergency management and related support arrangement in the Territory. One of the Agency’s primary information management systems is its spatially enabled Computer Aided Dispatch System.
