The Spatial Information eXchange (SIX) is a web-based application that provides a range of spatial services and products such as high resolution imagery and geographic information. Established by the NSW Department of Lands, SIX provides the public, business and government agencies with easy access to government spatial information to support decision-making.
SIX also provides dedicated service channels designed exclusively for key government services. A cooperative work program between the NSW Department of Lands and the NSW Fire Brigades has developed the secure access SIX Fire & Hazards channel.
The Fire & Hazards channel helps protect communities by enabling fire brigades to more efficiently respond to and manage major incidents. It provides layers of information such as the location of hydrants and water mains, emergency services facilities, details about previous incidents and live weather and fire data. This information can be superimposed on SIX’s aerial photos, satellite images and maps.
The SIX Gateway provides a single entry point through which to search, access and utilise the wealth of geospatial services and data managed by Lands. It also provides opportunities for users to contribute to this state-wide resource.
The SIX Gateway aims to vastly improve access to spatial data and foster a cooperative approach towards geospatial information in NSW that will deliver significant mutual benefits to all involved.
