In an effort to make greater use of the State’s spatial information, the WA Government undertook the development of the Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) in January 2005. SLIP provides a single, online point-of-entry to the mapping, imagery and location based information held by various government departments. The SLIP service provides a public map viewer which allows users to overlay a vast array of public mapping.
As lead agency, FESA has been working with the State’s emergency services sector to provide business focussed products that support the State’s emergency management requirements.
The SLIP-Emergency Management program, built on the SLIP infrastructure to provide a pilot service, is configured to support emergency management activities. Through SLIP authorised users can directly access the most current and authoritative spatial/mapping information.
The system provides pre-built map views that present information that is specifically required for each hazard scenario and related operational roles.
The pilot service was released to a small group of operational staff who have successfully trialled the service in support of HAZMAT, Tropical Cyclone and Search and Rescue operations.
The State Emergency Management Committee has now tasked the SLIP-EM Program to develop an implementation plan for the services to be fully operational in support of other State hazard responsibilities, and to provide access to a broader group of emergency management agencies and staff.
